Today we solved addition math problems by using a number line. We are practicing using many different math tools to help us when solving problems. 

We continued our research about Dolphins. We watched some more videos and read stories about dolphins. We chose a fact and wrote it on our ocean animal fact cards.

PM Kindergarten had two groups of students from Grade 3/4 Watterson/Zwack/Bates class.  They performed Reader's Theatre for us. 

AM kindergarten and Mrs. McLean's class had music. Mrs. Mask's PM class had gym. 

We had centers.

RE: Glenbow Ranch Field Trip Rescheduled 

 

Dear EHS Parents and Guardians,  

  

The staff and students at Eric Harvie have been very busy preparing for our upcoming field trip to Glenbow Ranch Park.  We have been constantly monitoring the weather, as we are sure you have been as well.  The weather on Thursday does not look promising, and it is challenging to find even occasional shelter for 450 students and adults in a foothills landscape. The staff at Glenbow Ranch, as well as teachers at Eric Harvie School, have been preparing some amazing centres for your students and it would be a challenge to have the same opportunities with heavy rain. 

 

We have been able to reschedule with Glenbow Ranch Park and secure bussing for Wednesday, June 22.  

 

We understand that this change has significant impacts on families. We have been overwhelmed by the amazing number of volunteers that have stepped forward and have made plans to be a part of this Thursday. We also are so thankful to our Kindergarten families for making adjustments to their usual routines for this day. Here are some key points about this change: 

  • Thursday, May 19 will return back to a regular school day for Kindergarten to grade 4 students. AM and PM Kindergarten classes will be at the regularly scheduled times. 
  • If this change makes a significant impact on your family, please contact the school and we will help to arrange a solution together with you. 
  • We will be having both AM and PM classes come for the full day Field Trip on Wednesday, June 22 together with all other EHS students 
  • We are hopeful that our volunteers will be able to re-arrange their schedules to attend the new date. We will be confirming with parents prior to this new date to ensure they are able to attend also.

Tomorrow is Mrs. McLean's last day. Mr. Campbell has been in the classroom this week getting to know all of our learners.

Today we chose 3 books to come home for home reading. Please send the books back on Thursday and write the book titles only ONCE on the book log sheet. Happy Reading :) We read, " I Am Love " and talked about what makes us feel loved. We drew picture about what love is and shared with the class.  We played bears in den and practiced making 10. AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school.  Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water.  We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. Today we exchanged home reading. Your child took home 2 books to read this week. Please return them on Thursday. We are looking at poetry in our class. We read the story, "Hello Ocean" and had to think of one word to describe the ocean. We made a list and talked about using descriptive words to speak about the ocean. We used our 5 senses to help us describe the ocean and created a class poem. We will be focusing on creating ocean creature poems over the next few weeks in class.  We played bump in math. It is a game that focuses on counting on from the biggest number using dice.  AM Kindergarten and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Mr. Campbell's class had gym. We practiced rhyming words and wrote our own on whiteboards.  We had centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.
