AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school. 

Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water. 

We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. We made our own pumpkins using paper. 

We had music with Mrs. Coulson. 

Friday is PM kindergarten. PM kindergarten are invited to wear their costume tomorrow. Please remember to have indoor shoes in your backpack as it is supposed to snow tomorrow. Please dress for the weather.

** Important notice about fun snack for AM kindergarten. Unfortunately, the delivery truck was delayed this morning so the AM kindergartens did not receive their fun snack. If you ordered fun snack, you are welcome to come pick up your child's cookies in the front office at the end of today or on Friday. If you cannot make it to the school to pick it up, your child can have their cookies on Monday.**

 Hello Kindergarten!!! I am Jennele Coulson and I teach you (your student) music twice a week.  We have so much fun together.  At the end of every month you can expect a post from me keeping you up to date with that we have been working on in music class.  I have so much to update you on.   At Eric Harvie there is a huge focus on peace songs.  We began the year by learning one of our favourites. Thursday March 10

If you have booked an online conference, your child is bringing home their blue journal and white visual journal.  Please look through these journals prior to your interview time.  Please return the journals to us on Monday.  If you booked an in person conference, your child's work will be at the school for you to look at with them.  All journals will be sent home at the end of June for you to keep.  Many thanks! Today was a great day at school.  Thank you to everyone who helped their child bring Show and Tell this week.  Please check the show and tell calendar that was emailed to you last week and mark your child's date on the calendar. As a reminder ... Cultural Artifact   In Social Studies, we are learning about what makes each of us unique. To help us learn about each other, we are asking that each child bring in a cultural artifact (object) that represents (or is important) to your family.  What a great day at school!  We had new arrival centers where we are working cooperatively to play board games and build puzzles.  We were excited to try the new alphabet centers where we are using chalk and sponges to draw letters and using wooden boards to make the letters. We continued our work on the next pages of the winter booklet.  Today we had the choice of "I see hot chocolate." or "I see skates."  Please ask your child what page they added to their Winter book. Friday is PM Kindergarten.  There is no school on Monday January 31st for a Professional Development Day.
