2021-2022 EHS Kindergarten

Today we started our day with new arrival centers and we switched our home reading. Your child is bringing home 3 books to read. Please return them on Thursday.  We continued to learn about 3D shapes. The AM kindergarten had to figure out what shapes could stack, roll and slide.  PM kindergarten worked in groups to sort a variety of 3D shapes. We had to figure out how to sort them in different ways. We looked at the 3D shapes: sphere, cylinder and cube and described them. Try to find these objects at home. We read, "I am Unique" and "I'm Glad I'm Me" Poem and talked about what our favourite thing is about ourselves. We drew pictures and wrote about our favourite part. We will be creating an all about me poster to share with our peers and families.  We had gym and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music.  Friday is PM Kindergarten. 

We continued to learn about 3D shapes.  We worked in groups to sort a variety of 3D shapes. We had to figure out how to sort them in different ways. We looked at the 3D shapes: sphere, cylinder and cube and described them. Try to find these objects at home. We did some shape art with watercolours. Try drawing some 2D shapes at home.  We had gym and we continued to practice our jumping and skipping skills. 

Today we did our writing journals. We drew pictures and wrote about whatever we wanted to share about.We are working on adding more details to our drawings, labelling our drawings with beginning sounds and trying to write the sounds we hear in words.  We learned about 3D shapes and looked at describing them. We went on a 3D shape hunt around the room to identify the 3D shapes we see in our world. We learned about the letter X and the sound it makes. We practiced printing the letter X and found words that have an X in it. Can you find words at home with the letter X? AM kindergarten and Mrs. McLean's class had music. Mrs. Conley's and Mrs. Mask's PM class had gym.  Tomorrow is AM Kindergarten. 

Today was Pink Shirt Day. We learned about why we have pink shirt day and why it is important. We read, " Strictly No Elephants" and "Pink is For Boys". We talked about why it is important to welcome all and ways we can show kindness to others.  Ask your child what happened in the story, Strictly No Elephants. We drew pictures in a heart about how we can include others and show kindness and mixed our own colour of pink to paint around the heart. Ask your child what they drew. What is one way you can show kindness to others today.  We had an assembly with the Grade 3/4 class about Pink Shirt Day. Ask your child to share about the presentation. We continued to learn about 2D and 3D shapes. Ask your child about the differences between 2D and 3D shapes. The AM kindergarten practiced a lockdown today. The kindergarten did a great job of finding the lock symbol, sitting quietly and waiting for the police officer to open the door.  Friday is AM Kindergarten.

We found shapes in books and around our school. We looked at the letter W and the sound it makes. We practiced printing the letter and drew and wrote out words that begin with W. Can you find things at home that begin with W? All groups had music today.  Friday is AM Kindergarten.                           PINK SHIRT DAY is tomorrow. You are invited to wear PINK !  Today at school we continued to explore shapes with Miss G and Miss Mach.  We practiced drawing shapes on the white boards.  We used loose parts to make shapes.  Please challenge your child to go on a shape hunt this weekend.  How many shapes can you find at your house? We continued to work on our colour wheel.  Today we added the secondary colours to the wheel.  Please ask your child if they can name the secondary colours (green, orange and purple). We practiced the letter V in our printing books. We talked about the sound it makes. Can you find any items at home that begin with V? We had gym, snack and centres. Please remember there is no school Thursday Feb 17, Friday Feb 18 and Monday Feb 21.  See you back at school on Tuesday Feb 22. Pink Shirt day is Wednesday February 23.

Today we started learning about 2D shapes. We talked about the shapes we know and where we see them in our world. We described and sorted the shapes into different groups. We tried to sort the items many ways.  We continued to learn about colour. We read, "Monsters Love Colors" and talked about the primary colours. Ask your child what primary means.
