2021-2022 EHS Kindergarten

We started our morning with cooperative games and puzzles. We continued to work in our Winter Booklets. We created a cover page and all about the author page. We can't wait to share our books with you. We read, "Ok Book" and talked about goals and how to make a goal. We drew pictures and wrote about a goal for school and at home. Ask your child about their goals.  We learned a new math game called bears in a den. We played in partners. We started with 5 bears. One partner would hid some bears in the den and the other partner would have to figure out how many bears were in the den. We talked about how we knew the answer. Practice this game at home. Once you can play with 5, try playing with 10. We went outside to play to enjoy the beautiful weather. Have a great weekend. We read, "Jack Frost" and talked about the things we see in Winter.  We continued to work in our Winter booklets. Today we had the choice of "I see a sled." or "I see mountains."  Please ask your child what page they added to their Winter book. We played a number sequence game called before and after. We were shown a number and we had to write on the whiteboards the number that comes before or after that number. Practice this game when you are at home or walking in the community. When you see a number ask what comes before or after.  We had music (AM classes and Mrs. McLean's class)  and gym and centers. Friday is PM kindergarten.  Reminder that Monday January 31 is a PD day. NO school for Kindergarten. 

Please send back your coloured folders ASAP.   Home reading starts in Kindergarten on Tuesday February 1.  All home reading books will travel to and from school in your child's coloured folder. We are having trouble with Kindergarten children banging on the doors before school.  We have spoken to the children at school to remind them of the expectations when they are waiting in line.  Please ask your child what the rules are and help us to remind them each day.  We appreciate the help! Today is Writing Wednesday in Kindergarten.  We read the story "Winter Dance" and then we drew pictures about the story.  We worked on the letter K today.  We practiced drawing the letter K on white boards and then we worked in our printing books. We practiced sequencing numbers from 1-10. We each had a number and tried to line up in order without speaking.  We had centers and went outside to play at the park. Friday is PM Kindergarten.   

 What a great day at school!  We had new arrival centers where we are working cooperatively to play board games and build puzzles.  We were excited to try the new alphabet centers where we are using chalk and sponges to draw letters and using wooden boards to make the letters. We continued our work on the next pages of the winter booklet.  Today we had the choice of "I see hot chocolate." or "I see skates."  Please ask your child what page they added to their Winter book. Friday is PM Kindergarten.  There is no school on Monday January 31st for a Professional Development Day.

 The AM kiddos started their day by writing in their journals.  Many of us are copying print and labelling our pictures with the first letter sound we hear in words. The PM kiddos added to their chalk pastel snowmen from last week by adding a sentence to describe their snowman using a number and word for example " 3 buttons". We had arrival centers and music too.  Please ask your child what they did in music with Mrs. Coulson. We continued working on our Winter book by completing the second page.  Today we had the choice of "I see a snowman" or "I see snowflakes".  Again we used our fancy paper to make the illustrations in our books. Tomorrow is AM Kindergarten.

Despite the cold weather outside, we had a great day at school!  It was a busy day for us! We have begun a new project where we are each going to be authors and illustrators of a winter book.  Today we had a choice of 2 options.  Some of us wrote about mittens and some of us wrote about hats.  We used the fancy paper we made on Monday to create the art for each page.  Stay tuned as we continue to create our own books! We played with the math number lines from 1-10.  Today we played with a partner and were challenged to create the number line.  Then one partner closed their eyes while a number (or 2) was removed from the number line.  We then guessed what number was missing.   We went to the gym and worked on our basketball skills. Friday is AM Kindergarten.

Today was a fun day at school.  We finished our work with the Jory John and Pete Oswald books.  Today we used sharpies and water-colours to draw which of the characters we are from the stories.  Please ask your child which character they drew.  We also worked on the letter H.  We printed H and drew pictures of words that start with the letter H.  Challenge your child to go on a letter hunt at home, looking for things that start with the letter H. We had gym, music and centers today as well. Friday is AM Kindergarten.
