If you have booked an online conference, your child is bringing home their blue journal and white visual journal.  Please look through these journals prior to your interview time.  Please return the journals to us on Monday.  If you booked an in person conference, your child's work will be at the school for you to look at with them.  All journals will be sent home at the end of June for you to keep.  Many thanks!

Today was a great day at school.  Thank you to everyone who helped their child bring Show and Tell this week.  Please check the show and tell calendar that was emailed to you last week and mark your child's date on the calendar.

As a reminder ... Cultural Artifact 

In Social Studies, we are learning about what makes each of us unique. To help us learn about each other, we are asking that each child bring in a cultural artifact (object) that represents (or is important) to your family. This could be a cultural object (clothing, art, an item from a holiday you celebrate, a song or dance, a picture of traditional food) or a photo or video showing any of your cultural or family traditions. This is NOT “show and tell”, so the objects should have a personal meaning to your child and family.  

Students will bring in either the object, or a photograph of the object, and share it with the class. The expectation is that they will be able to talk about: 

- what the artifact is 

- where it came from 

- why is it important to your family 

- what the student would like us to know about the artifact 

ALL items need to be brought in and/or sent to the teacher on Monday March 14. For videos or photos, please email your child’s teacher and for artifacts please bring in on Monday. The items will come home on Monday after the children have shared. 

Many of our friends have continued to make purchases at the book fair.  Just as a reminder the book fair will be open during school conferences.  Please check it out!

We started the day by working on the letter Z.  We printed Z, drew pictures of words that start with Z and practiced the sound Z makes.

We read the story "Whoever You Are" by Mem Fox.  We continue to learn about how each of us are unique.  We drew our self portraits too.

We had gym and music too!

Today we chose 3 books to come home for home reading. Please send the books back on Thursday and write the book titles only ONCE on the book log sheet. Happy Reading :) We read, " I Am Love " and talked about what makes us feel loved. We drew picture about what love is and shared with the class.  We played bears in den and practiced making 10. We are practicing using our fingers and counting on to help us figure out ways to make 10.  Mrs. Mask's PM class had music and AM and Mrs. McLean's class had gym.  Today we watched the a video to kick start the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser. AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school.  Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water.  We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. Today we exchanged home reading. Your child took home 2 books to read this week. Please return them on Thursday. We are looking at poetry in our class. We read the story, "Hello Ocean" and had to think of one word to describe the ocean. We made a list and talked about using descriptive words to speak about the ocean. We used our 5 senses to help us describe the ocean and created a class poem. We will be focusing on creating ocean creature poems over the next few weeks in class.  We played bump in math. It is a game that focuses on counting on from the biggest number using dice.  AM Kindergarten and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Mr. Campbell's class had gym. We practiced rhyming words and wrote our own on whiteboards.  We had centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.
