Monday January 17

Today was a great day at school!  We started the day by painting big sheets of paper in the style of Eric Carle.  We used many items to paint with.  Please ask your child about some of the unique items they painted with.  We will use this paper in the next few weeks to work on a winter book.

In math, we practiced put the numbers 1-10 in order both forwards and backwards.  

We read the last story in our series by Jory John, called "The Couch Potato".  Please ask your child what a couch potato does.

We went outside to play at the park.

Friday is AM Kindergarten.


A note from Mrs. Mask

Hello Kindergarten Families,
I just wanted to let you know that I will be away this week. For those of you that don't know, I have almost 4 year old twins (Charlotte and Luke). My son test positive for Covid, as there were many cases in his daycare. We are in isolation until the 24th. I look forward to getting back to school and seeing all of our learners! I miss being in the class and hope all our families are healthy and well.

Today we chose 3 books to come home for home reading. Please send the books back on Thursday and write the book titles only ONCE on the book log sheet. Happy Reading :) We read, " I Am Love " and talked about what makes us feel loved. We drew picture about what love is and shared with the class.  We played bears in den and practiced making 10. We are practicing using our fingers and counting on to help us figure out ways to make 10.  Mrs. Mask's PM class had music and AM and Mrs. McLean's class had gym.  Today we watched the a video to kick start the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser. AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school.  Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water.  We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. Today we exchanged home reading. Your child took home 2 books to read this week. Please return them on Thursday. We are looking at poetry in our class. We read the story, "Hello Ocean" and had to think of one word to describe the ocean. We made a list and talked about using descriptive words to speak about the ocean. We used our 5 senses to help us describe the ocean and created a class poem. We will be focusing on creating ocean creature poems over the next few weeks in class.  We played bump in math. It is a game that focuses on counting on from the biggest number using dice.  AM Kindergarten and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Mr. Campbell's class had gym. We practiced rhyming words and wrote our own on whiteboards.  We had centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.
