 Today we were very lucky to have two University of Calgary Second Year student teachers join our class.  Carmen Mach, is joining Mrs. Conley/Mrs. McLean's class and Kaila Gysbers is joining Mrs. Mask's class. They will be here until December 10 and then back again in February to April.

Today we had new arrival centers. We are practicing alphabet recognition, beginning letter sounds, patterning and cooperative play. 

We started talking about emotions and labeling our emotions. We acted out ways we feel and what our bodies look like and how they feel when we have different emotions.

We read, "The Color Monster" and then did a guided drawing of the colour monster and drew the monster how we were feeling today. We used watercolour to match the colour of our emotions.

We had gym and Mrs Mask's PM class had music. In gym, we will be working on gymnastic skills over the next couple of weeks.

**With the cold weather, we are asking that all students have indoor shoes. Please send your child with a pair of indoor shoes tomorrow and we will keep them at school to ensure every student has indoor shoes. This is very important especially when we have gym class to have proper footwear. Thank you for your cooperation**

The coloured folders came home with coloured calendars and the Friday AM/PM schedules. We are noticing there is still some confusion over Friday. Please keep this calendar for future reference. It is also posted on the blog daily.

This Friday is AM Kindergarten.

Today we chose 3 books to come home for home reading. Please send the books back on Thursday and write the book titles only ONCE on the book log sheet. Happy Reading :) We read, " I Am Love " and talked about what makes us feel loved. We drew picture about what love is and shared with the class.  We played bears in den and practiced making 10. We are practicing using our fingers and counting on to help us figure out ways to make 10.  Mrs. Mask's PM class had music and AM and Mrs. McLean's class had gym.  Today we watched the a video to kick start the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser. AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school.  Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water.  We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. Today we exchanged home reading. Your child took home 2 books to read this week. Please return them on Thursday. We are looking at poetry in our class. We read the story, "Hello Ocean" and had to think of one word to describe the ocean. We made a list and talked about using descriptive words to speak about the ocean. We used our 5 senses to help us describe the ocean and created a class poem. We will be focusing on creating ocean creature poems over the next few weeks in class.  We played bump in math. It is a game that focuses on counting on from the biggest number using dice.  AM Kindergarten and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Mr. Campbell's class had gym. We practiced rhyming words and wrote our own on whiteboards.  We had centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.
