Friday November 5

 Today was a fabulous Friday at school!

We had arrival centers and then we had our first lesson with Ms. Mach and Ms. G.  We used loose parts to represent our emotion by making many different faces.  Please ask your child what faces they were able to make.  Please ask about how they know what people are feeling by looking at their faces.

We made poppies for our Remembrance Day video and practiced our poem for next week.

AM Kindergarten, please practice this poem at home this weekend.

Little Poppy

Little poppy given to me

Help me keep Canada safe and free

I'll wear a little poppy as red as red can be

To show that I remember those who fought for me



We used chalk pastels to make emotion fish.  Please ask your child what type of fish they drew.

We went outside to play on the park.  

If you ordered school pictures, the AM children brought their photos home today.  The PM children will get their photos on Monday.

Next week is a short week.  There is no school Thursday November 11 (Remembrance Day) and Friday November 12 (PD Day).

Today we chose 3 books to come home for home reading. Please send the books back on Thursday and write the book titles only ONCE on the book log sheet. Happy Reading :) We read, " I Am Love " and talked about what makes us feel loved. We drew picture about what love is and shared with the class.  We played bears in den and practiced making 10. We are practicing using our fingers and counting on to help us figure out ways to make 10.  Mrs. Mask's PM class had music and AM and Mrs. McLean's class had gym.  Today we watched the a video to kick start the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser. AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school.  Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water.  We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. Today we exchanged home reading. Your child took home 2 books to read this week. Please return them on Thursday. We are looking at poetry in our class. We read the story, "Hello Ocean" and had to think of one word to describe the ocean. We made a list and talked about using descriptive words to speak about the ocean. We used our 5 senses to help us describe the ocean and created a class poem. We will be focusing on creating ocean creature poems over the next few weeks in class.  We played bump in math. It is a game that focuses on counting on from the biggest number using dice.  AM Kindergarten and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Mr. Campbell's class had gym. We practiced rhyming words and wrote our own on whiteboards.  We had centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.
