Tuesday October 12

Today we started our day with new arrival centers. We are practicing skills such as matching lower and uppercase letters, counting sets of items, sorting and fine motor activities such as playdough, cutting, colouring and printing. 

We read the book, "Thankful" and we created a paper chain of all the things we are thankful for in our lives. We drew pictures and wrote words of things we are most thankful for.  We created a class thankful chain that we are building in our class. 

We talked about the number 5 and showed the ways we can make the number 5. Can you make sets of 5 at home? 

We had music and centers. 

With the colder weather, we are now going to ask that Kindergarten students pack a pair of indoor shoes in their backpacks. The children will keep their shoes in their backpacks and they will travel back and forth between school Velcro shoes are preferred unless your child is able to tie their own shoes. Thank you. 

Wednesday the AM kindergarten is planning on going for a community walk. PM Kindergarten plan to go for a walk on Friday.

Friday is PM Kindergarten.

Today we chose 3 books to come home for home reading. Please send the books back on Thursday and write the book titles only ONCE on the book log sheet. Happy Reading :) We read, " I Am Love " and talked about what makes us feel loved. We drew picture about what love is and shared with the class.  We played bears in den and practiced making 10. AM kindergarten looked fantastic all dressed up for Halloween! We had a fun day at school.  Today we were Scientists and took a closer look at pumpkins. We watched a video from Sci Kids about pumpkin dissection and learned about all the parts of a pumpkin. We learned about estimation and had to estimate about the height of a pumpkin using cubes, the circumference of a pumpkin using string and estimated the number of ribs on the pumpkin. We then measured to see how accurate we were with our guesses. We worked in groups.  Our last job was to predict what would happen when we placed a pumpkin in water. Would it sink or float? We used tally marks to share our thinking. Ask your child what happened when we placed the pumpkin in water.  We read the story, "The Happy Pumpkin" and talked about jack o lanterns and the different faces. Today we exchanged home reading. Your child took home 2 books to read this week. Please return them on Thursday. We are looking at poetry in our class. We read the story, "Hello Ocean" and had to think of one word to describe the ocean. We made a list and talked about using descriptive words to speak about the ocean. We used our 5 senses to help us describe the ocean and created a class poem. We will be focusing on creating ocean creature poems over the next few weeks in class.  We played bump in math. It is a game that focuses on counting on from the biggest number using dice.  AM Kindergarten and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Mr. Campbell's class had gym. We practiced rhyming words and wrote our own on whiteboards.  We had centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.
